Nestled conveniently by Sandyford Toll Roundabout in Monkton, Prestwick, The Smithy offers a remarkable café and breakfast restaurant experience that seamlessly blends comfort, quality, and warmth. This welcoming venue truly distinguishes itself as a go-to spot for both locals and visitors seeking a hearty start to their day, a satisfying lunch, or an indulgent tea time retreat.
The Smithy’s menu is an enticing celebration of classic British café favourites with a touch of inventive flair. Guests rave about the Full English Breakfast and the elegantly simple but mouthwatering Bacon Eggs Benedict, each dish presenting vibrant colours and robust flavours that immediately awaken the senses. Their skilfully crafted Chicken Mango Chilli Panini Special and the comfort-inducing Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas and Tartar Sauce deliver generous portions and satisfying textures, perfect for a wholesome meal that lingers in memory.
The café’s specials board is a treasure trove of delights, featuring dishes like the “Effectively a Club Sandwich,” which stands out with its fresh, well-balanced fillings and hearty appeal. For lighter yet equally satisfying options, the Falafel Wrap and Coronation Chicken Toastie offer layers of flavor that are both comforting and thoughtfully prepared. The signature Scottish Crispy Baked Potato and House Macaroni Cheese further illustrate The Smithy’s commitment to delivering soulful, locally inspired fare.
The Smithy shines not only through its food but through the lovely atmosphere created by a friendly and accommodating staff. Reviews from regulars like Sarah Davison-Gould underscore the attentive service and evident care that the team extends not only to guests but even their canine companions—who are welcomed with free sausages! Another customer, M J, emphasizes the café’s genuine dog-friendly ethos, alongside great food and good value, highlighting The Smithy’s inviting, down-to-earth vibe.
Afternoon Tea at The Smithy is an experience in its own right. As noted by Ann Cubitt, the freshly prepared sandwiches are generously filled and paired beautifully with delights such as a strawberry tart and perfectly risen scones. Every bite is a harmonious blend of textures and tastes, complemented by first-class service that feels both personal and polished. The rich aroma of their Cappuccino or the delicate floral notes in their Luxury Jenier Silk Pyramid Tea create a cozy moment perfect for unwinding.
For those who appreciate beverages as much as their food, The Smithy’s drinks menu offers a range of hot, cold, and specialty options—from an expertly crafted Flat White to the indulgent Deluxe Hot Chocolate with Cream & Mallows, catering to every preference. Their use of organic bio coffee beans, available to take home, reflects dedication to quality and sustainability, inviting guests to extend the café’s comforting experience beyond its walls.
Beyond the culinary offerings, The Smithy stands out with its spacious, easy parking and a welcoming environment where both humans and dogs feel equally cherished. Tony Tumulty’s account of a simple cheese and ham baguette transforming into a delightful, well-presented meal with fresh salad and coleslaw showcases the café’s attention to detail and generosity in portion size.
In all, The Smithy is far more than a typical café; it is a vibrant community hub where the love of good food meets genuine hospitality. Whether you’re eager to start your morning with a generously plated breakfast, enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea, or savor a wholesome lunch, The Smithy offers lovingly prepared dishes suffused with comfort, flavor, and heart. Highly recommended for anyone who values quality, warmth, and a welcoming atmosphere combined with a distinctly Scottish charm.
Lovely welcome, they gave our dogs a free sausage. Breakfast was huge and delicious. Also had a wonderful choice of home made cakes, and massive scones.
A real gem, a truly dog friendly cafe, serving a great breakfast and other food. Staff are friendly and accommodating, making a fuss of our dog and gave him treats. Plus offers good value for money. There is also plenty of parking
Had a great meal in here. The portion sizes are great and was one of the best chicken burgers I've had! Would definitely come again
We had a fantastic afternoon tea . It was preceded by delicious tomato and basil soup. Everything was first class. The sandwiches were really well filled and very fresh. The strawberry tart was out of this world and the scones and baking was super tasty. We came away with a good sized carry out of our leftovers. The waitresses were all really friendly and helpful. It’s dog friendly, which is a bonus.. everything was spotlessly clean . It’s well worth a visit, we will definitely be back.
Called in for a sandwich late in the afternoon, was made most welcome. Decided to have a simple cheese and ham baguette. When it arrived it was nothing like a simple baguette. I was pleasantly surprised ..... . The cheese was melted and it was accompanied by a delicious salad, and a lovely coleslaw with tortilla crisps. I would recommend The Smithy if your after a lovely lunch or even a coffee and cake
Quite a unique wee cafe this. It’s obviously been lovingly refurbished and decorated by the owner. You can see the care and pride they take in the way it looks and it rubs off into the atmosphere, service and food. Was served by the owner and made to feel most at home whilst we had our coffee and cake. Menu is classic local cafe lunch and brunch with a smattering of some lovely baked goods. You might be tempted to just drive past but I suggest you don’t. You’ll not be disappointed!! Bonus points for step free access and great toilets.
Absolutely fantastic value for the price! We got 2 whole trays of sandwiches and 2 3-tier standa of sweet treats for 5 of us, plus drink and soup for Afternoon Tea. Would have appreciated if sandwiches were cut into quarters and better teas than just bagged Tetley; but for £18/pers it's only a minor thing.
We hadn't booked just went in on chance halfway through a long drive. The staff and food were excellent. We had the quiche with chips and salad and I couldn't finish mine. The quiches were individual and a fair size, the prices were very reasonable too. I would definitely recommend The Smithy .
